Castries nightlife - dance, drink, have fun!
There isn't much nightlife in St. Lucia besides the entertainment offered by hotels. In the winter, at least one hotel has a steel band or calypso music every night of the week. Otherwise, check to see what's happening at Capone's or the Green Parrot, both in Castries. In the center of Rodney Bay, Jazz Club & Restaurant St. Lucia is St. Lucia's only live jazz and blues bar. There's a romantic ambience here at this roof-garden restaurant, where a chef from Europe creates fusion cuisine (a table d'hote menu costs EC$60/US$22). Fresh local lobster and rib-eye steaks are featured, and you can "Soothe Your Soul" with late-night jazz and blues in the lounge. If you'd like to go barhopping, begin at Shamrocks Pub, Rodney Bay. This Irish-style pub is especially popular among boaters and gets really lively on weekends. Among the dance clubs, islanders and visitors favor Late Lime, Reduit Beach. A DJ plays dance music on Saturday. At Marigot Bay, where the 1967 version of Doctor Doolittle starring Rex Harrison was filmed, the memory is perpetuated at Doolittle's, part of the Marigot Beach Club Hotel, lying 14km (8 3/4 miles) south of Castries. The Marigot Bay ferry takes you to the palm-studded peninsula of the resort; tickets cost EC$5 (US$1.85). On Saturday nights -- when Doolittle's offers a lavish seafood and barbeque buffet along with a steel band -- this is the best place to be on the island. You can come here for drinks (try the Singapore Slings) or dishes like chunky pumpkin soup, jerk chicken, or lobster and coconut shrimp Creole.
